Twitter shares close up 27% after Elon Musk takes 9% stake in social media company

• Musk owns 73,486,938 shares of Twitter, which represents a 9.2% passive stake in the company, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission 13G filing released Monday.
• The stake is worth $2.89 billion, based Twitter’s closing price Friday. By Monday Elon’s stake was worth over 3.2 billion.

Musk reached out to us before he polled his followers about Twitter's commitment to free speech. He wanted to confirm that we had, in fact, been suspended. He even mused on that call that he might need to buy Twitter. Now he's the largest shareholder and has a seat on the board.
